How do you save humanity when the only thing that's real is you?
What I Thought After Seeing It: I liked the idea of this movie…I also like Bruce Willis. Those were my two primary reasons for selecting this movie over some of the others that I could have seen.
I actually did enjoy this movie, however not quite as much as I had hoped I would. I kind of expected to walk out of the theater saying “Wow, that movie was one of the best I’ve seen in a while”, but I didn’t. It was kind of just “another movie” so to speak. The story line was a bit predictable as well.
One thing that is great about this movie though, is its “conversation starter-ability”. My girlfriend and I went to see this movie together, and on the way home we got into a bit of an argument over whether or not something like the premise of this movie would be a good idea or not (and whether or not you should or shouldn’t choose to “live as a surrogate”).
Here you’ll find a more comprehensive review of the movie Surrogates.
How it Performed at the Box Office Opening Weekend: The weekend this movie opened was actually a “not so eventful” weekend for any movie. It ended up opening at the number 2 spot behind “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”, bringing in about $15 million. This was not nearly what was expected for this movie. It was supposed to be a late in the season blockbuster, but opened more like a movie designed to say “Hey, it is the end of the summer movie season.”
