Lying in bed...afraid.

Lying in bed...afraid.

I’m not sure if Paranormal Activity will be able to take the number one spot out of all this weekends movies.  For it to be the top weekend movie, it has a lot it has to beat out…including a ton of “star power”.

You’ve got Gerard Butler in “Law Abiding Citizen”, Penn Badgley in “The Stepfather” and you’ve got that very impressive looking “Where the Wild Things Are”.

So, it looks like a battle… Movie Buzz vs. Movie Brawn

Does the buzz of Paranormal Activity have the power to beat out all the brawn brought to this weekends movies by the aforementioned topics and characters?

Even if it doesn’t, the movie is definitely a story of “David and Goliath”.  The movie which has been shot on an ultra low budget (no specifics really, but numbers ranging from $11,000 to almost $20,000 have been thrown around), managed to rake in 7.1 million last weekend.

You can do the math on what kind of a truly massive profit that is…good for them.

This is definitely a movie I’ll be going to see, that much is for sure.

Download Michael Jackson’s This Is It Movie

The link to download it is here: This Is It

All the people that purchased tickets to Michael Jacksons sold out show in London were “left out in the cold” upon his death.  He was claiming that concert as “This Is It” and that people were going to be blown away by something they had never seen before.

This movie is supposed to be some sort of “closure” in a way for them.  It is all behind the scenes footage of Michael Jackson rehearsing for his “This Is It” concert.

The trailer for it looks amazing, and no doubt they put this movie together well, as it will surely be part of his lasting legacy.  If you’re going to choose to download this instead of seeing it theaters, the best possible place to download it has been provided below.

Considering “This Is It” will only be in theaters for a VERY SHORT two weeks, there will probably be a lot of people looking to download This Is It if they miss the opportunity to go see it in theaters.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see people crying in the movie theaters…Michael Jackson’s die hard fans are well known to be very dedicated to him.

This movie will no doubt end up being a sell out movie…  I can’t say that I am personally a big fan of his work, but even I am tempted to go and see this.  Hopefully this movie will help to overshadow some of the latter parts of his life that got such huge publicity…things that weren’t because of his amazing work.

Either way, everybody knows and will remember Michael Jackson as the absolute king of pop.  Hopefully the This Is It movie will make sure that nobody can tarnish his reputation…now, or in the future.

Penn Badgley says role in The Stepfather is "New Territory"

Penn Badgley says role in The Stepfather is "New Territory"

What you normally see around this time of year (and this year is no different) are the psychological thrillers, the slasher films, the horror movies & everything else that goes along with the Halloween season.  One of this weekends movies falls right into one of those categories (psychological thriller) and Penn Badgley is starring in it.

________________

In a recent interview, the star who normally stars in romantic comedies and other movies that typically appeal to a certain “demographic” of people, he mentions how this role is kind of a “new territory” for him.  Here is an excerpt from the interview:

“Film is where I’ve wanted to be for years and film is where the people working for me, behind me, have always imagined I would end up, so it was a very natural progression,” Badgley said.  “It was definitely exciting and definitely new territory, but I definitely took it in stride.”

________________

Even though this movie falls outside the typical roles you might see Penn in, that doesn’t mean you should throw this movie to the wayside thinking it won’t be any good.  Seeing as this is relatively new for him, he probably is going to make sure he absolutely nailed the role.

If you’d like to read more of the interview with Penn, and see what else he talked about (like his teenage life and his family growing up) you can.  Penn Badgley Interview

Gerard Butler is quite literally going to “bare all” for his role in this weekends “Law Abiding Citizen”

Gerard Butler is Going to Bare All This Weekend

Gerard Butler is Going to Bare All This Weekend

In a recent interview, Gerard Butler talked about how he “loves to show his bare rear end” because he considers it his finest asset.  He even talks about how it has become a bit of a challenge for him trying to figure out just how he is going to manage to do it in each film he stars in.

__________________________________

Check out this excerpt one of Gerards comments from the interview: “I love to show my rear end in roles. I fear it’s becoming a bit of a habit, a tradition that I have to show my bottom in every movie that I can,”

__________________________________

So, does that mean that is why he is going to show not only his bottom, but go completely “bare” for his role in this weekends Law Abiding Citizen?  Apparently, no, it isn’t.

__________________________________

Him “taking it all off” is neither for ratings or his need to show it all.  It was to actually keep in character for his role in this movie.

Also, be prepared to see a “bulkier” Gerard as he also mentions he was inspired by Al Pacino in “Taxi Driver” to bulk up a bit.

This Weekends Movies Actually Offer Some Great Options…Especially When Compared to Last Weekend

Here is What I'd See

Here is What I'd See

When you look at last weekends movies (wide releases anyway), this weekend is great.  Actually, even if you weren’t to compare this weekend to such a weak weekend like the last one, it is still very good.

This weekend is all about a nice variety of choices.  You’ve got the psychological thriller of “The Stepfather”, the action and mystery of “Law Abiding Citizen” and finally (for the whole family) “Where the Wild Things Are”.

Even though I’m an adult with no children, I was actually contemplating going to see “Where the Wild Things Are” because I remember reading the book as a child…and then seeing Spike Jonez vision of that book in the previews (which look absolutely amazing) made me want to see it for some reason….it is pulling at my childhood memories I guess.  That is going to be a huge selling point for this movie when it comes to families.  The children are going to want to see it and the parents are going to want to see it (that is always good for business).

However, after watching the preview for “Law Abiding Citizen” (and the enjoyment I get out of Gerard Butlers acting) I think I may have changed my mind to wanting to go and see that instead.  I’m not a terribly big fan of Jamie Foxx, but it looks as though he is really starting to build up some credibility.  The plot looks great, and I don’t think the movie is going to be terribly predictable or cheesy.

“The Stepfather” will probably be an alright movie, but it isn’t really anything new.  The “word on the street” is that it is a lot like “Disturbia” from a while back.  I mean, you can kind of do a movie highlight without even going to see the movie:

Dad Moves in…Dad seems great…Dad does something eerie (but it was probably nothing)…Dad goes crazy…Dad almost kills somebody…”somebody” doesn’t die…Dad gets killed.

So, with the plot easily figured out ahead of time, it is really going to have to be about the way the movie is shot and how well the actors pull it off and how predictable everything actually turns out to be.

Tagline - "The System Must Pay"

Tagline - "The System Must Pay"

How it Performed at the Box Office Opening Weekend:  This movie did pretty well opening weekend.  It brought it just over $21 million in ticket sales and viewers are giving it pretty good reviews, talking about how it is a “very serious movie, with a very unlikely set of scenarios that can be a fun movie to watch if you don’t take it as seriously as the film tries to make you.”  This movie would have taken the number one spot if it weren’t for Where the Wild Things Are.

Release Date (everywhere):  October 16th, 2009

Their Plot Synopsis:  An everyday guy decides to take justice into his own hands after a plea bargain sets his family’s killers free. His target: The district attorney who orchestrated the deal.

Starring: Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx

My Thoughts:  Upon initially seeing the previews for this movie, I wanted to see this movie.  I like Gerard Butler (who is actually a pretty diverse actor) and Jamie Foxx is gaining some credibility in my eyes.  However, I’m a little worried now that this movie may be a bit too much of a “political movie” for my taste.  I still believe this movie is going to open pretty well this weekend and it should be a pretty good fight between this movie and “The Stepfather” to see who takes the higher spot and rakes in more money.

The Buzz: This movie is getting excellent “before release” reviews.  It also looks like the base of viewers already very interested in seeing this movie is pretty strong.  There will undoubtedly be a wealth of movie goers going to see this film….and then we’ll see if it stands the test of time.
